Every fact in a Vindraft report names the source it came from. Here is the full list, and the limits every vehicle history report has.
Year, make, model, trim, engine, body and where it was built.
Every open recall on file, with what it affects.
Complaints filed with NHTSA and official crash-test ratings (in the full report).
Salvage, rebuilt, flood, junk and lemon brands, plus title events by state.
Reported mileage over time, so rollbacks and gaps stand out.
Police-reported accidents with the area of the car that was hit.
Insurance total-loss, salvage auction and theft records.
What it is worth against comparable cars, plus past sale listings and photos.
A plain-English verdict and the questions to ask the seller.
No vehicle history report, from us or anyone else, can show these. Knowing that up front helps you ask the right questions.
Oil changes and repairs are not reported to NMVTIS or NHTSA. Ask the seller for receipts.
Minor accidents never reported to police or an insurer, and repairs paid in cash, cannot appear in any history report.
The report says when lien records were not checked. Ask the seller for the title and any lien release before paying.
Some states report to NMVTIS late or not at all, so a record can be missing even when it exists.
Our sources are US databases. Imported cars may show little or no history before their first US title.
Older cars do not have a standard 17-character VIN, so they cannot be looked up reliably.
Records tell you what happened, not how the car is now. Always get an independent pre-purchase inspection.
